This week, I made water via materials.

I started by creating a hexagonal plane mesh in blender with more subdivisions on its face. This will allow me to displace the individual vertices to create a ripple effect.

Then I created a material for the water. The world position offset input takes the coordinate and shifts it up and down.

Later on, I created a decal for selecting tiles by crating two textures in photoshop: a hexagon and a spiraling gradient. I created a material from scratch that subtracted the inner hexagon from the outer one, so that I could adjust the line thickness as I saw fit. I used a rotator on the gradient to giveth effect of a circling trail around the hexagon.
